Finding Work-life Balance

If I am happy at home, I come into the office with tremendous energy. And if I am happy
at work, I come home with tremendous energy.

Maintaining a positive work-life balance is vital for your productivity and, ultimately, performance. It's also essential for your health and your relationships. To attain a work-life balance, you need to learn the art of adaptability -  to meet professional objectives while also retaining the energy levels for leisure time to enjoy your personal life.

A closely related concern is the general physical, emotional, and mental well-being - which are all affected when our life is out of balance. It’s a vicious circle. Imbalanced life leads to physical and mental issues, which limit our abilities to create and maintain a balanced lifestyle.  Making your health a priority can give you sustainable energy that boosts both your professional performance and your ability to maintain healthy relationships. Focusing on maintaining mental health can help you become more creative, receptive, and open to innovative ideas at work.

While organizations have increased awareness around well-being and creating flexible-working options, most efforts toward creating work-life balance are limited by our conceptualization of ‘life,’ which is assumed to be a synonym for family life. As often, it is the self that gets ignored in this work-life equation.

This is especially true for women, who want to balance their home responsibilities with their job, but end up ignoring the self. If you sense a perpetual need to juggle things, it is time to re-think and re-evaluate both your concept of work-life balance and your approach to attaining it.

Work-life balance is less about evenly dividing your day between work and leisure activities. Unlike popular belief, the issue cannot be solved simply by learning time management. It’s more about learning to enjoy guilt-free what you do at any particular time. It is here that a good coach can empower you to prioritize your time and keep balance by allocating energy and focus to family, job, and the self.
